I have two XP Pro machines, both at Service Pack 2 (firewall turned off for
testing)
that can ping every machine on the LAN EXCEPT for machines that are
connected using a wireless link between our office and factory...(via a
wireless AP). The IP's of these machines at the factory are in the same IP
address range as the office machines and have the same subnet etc... I am
having no problems with any of the other XP machines on our LAN except for
these two - and I can't seem to find where the issue lies with them.
One is hard wired to the hub and the other is using a wireless card to
connect to a WAP we have here in the office. However, on that machine, when
you remove the wireless card, and plug it directly into the hub using hard
wired ethernet, it can then see the other machines!!!
Background...
We have an office and a factory - separated by about 1 mile. The machines at
the factory are connected to us using a wireless connection. We have a
wireless radio at the office (IP is 192.168.2.250) and we have a wireless
radio at the factory (IP is 192.168.2.251) - which is then plugged into a
hub to provide access for the PC's at the factory. The two machines I am
referring to above that I am having problems with can both ping the radio
connected to the hub at the office (on the local LAN) - but can not ping
anything (not even the radio) at the factory - 192.168.2.251??
Very confusing indeed... At first I thought it was an issue with the
wireless ethernet card on that users laptop but now that it is also
happeneing to a different hard-wired machine - it must be a setting in the
network connections area....
Does anyone have any ideas what I should be checking??? Could it be
something to do with the
wireless radios that we are using as the link between factory and offices
that could be causing a problem
for the particular NICS installed on teh machiens I am having issues with?
I did install a differnet NIC (a DLINK) into the desktop machine - but had
the exact same issue - so it's not network card related...The desktop
machine
is a DELL Dimension 8300 with a built-in Intel Pro 10/100 VE
ethernet adapter and the Laptop is a Compaq 700 - wireless card is a
Trendware PCMCIA wireless network adapter.
