I am ugrading my computer and am going to install a new motherboard,
chip, and memory.

My first thought was:

P4-3.0 Northwood
Intell D865GBF MB

But after reading posts I am considering:

Gigibyte GA-8kNXP
or
Gigabyte GA-8lK1100

However I couldn't find either at Newegg but found these:

GA-8IG1000MK
GA-8IG1000PRO-G
GA-8IPE1000G
GA-8IPE1000PRO-G
These say Prescott ready. Are they not for Northwood?

Or do you suggest buying another motherboard.

Thanks,

Bob

You can't go wrong with any of those . . . your first choice, or any of the
others you listed. The prescott is the later version of the P4 processor.
If the mainboard is prescott ready, that means that the bios is recent
enough to recognize the prescott. And yes, it will work with an older
northwood just fine.

Do you see an advantage in the Gigabyte boards over the cheaper intel
board? The Gigabyte boards cost more and look more complicated?? I
thought about the Northwood because I read that while older and more
espensive--it runs cooler, and actually works better than the newer
Prescott. Do you agree?

The GBF comes with a LAN option. It's only to ask for the right sub-model.
