If I could afford it yes. Actually, I don't fly very often at all any more. I did fly when I was younger and traveling more. Now i'm a home body. ;)

I love flying. However, with the increase of abuse from the airline industry, coupled with Transportation System Assaulter's, I shall say that the aviation industry is in trouble.
August 22, 2012 3:30:27 PM

Actually the aviation industry is doing ok. It's the airline industry that's in trouble. There has been a decent spike in private aviation, either peple hiring private pilots/planes or buying/renting planes to fly themselves all over creation. This is mostly due to the invasive TSA procedures and the abuse you mentioned dog.

Sorry, I meant airline.

What do you think about the Airline Deregulation Act of 1979?
August 22, 2012 3:52:17 PM

BTW, you cannot hire a 'private pilot' per se. You must be endorsed by the FAA for a commercials rating.
August 22, 2012 4:04:10 PM

When I mean private, I mean the pilot works for themself, i.e. they own their own plane and charge an hourly rate +gas, or they work for a very small airline. Think the TV show 'Wings' if you are old enough to remember it.

You mean a 135 air carrier; aka Chater carrier?
August 22, 2012 6:36:11 PM

Not necessarily as big as that. Say I wanted to hire a pilot and his 6 passenger Cessna to fly me and friends to the Outer Banks. I get to bypass TSA, the ticket counter, boarding procedures, etc. I pay the pilot directly for his time +gas.
August 23, 2012 12:59:10 AM

Yes, so a FAR 135 charter carrier. 121 is the scheduled airline reg.

That I can see being the most lucrative and safest form of air travel. What jihadist wants to bard a cessna 175 and fly it into a building? What will he get out of it.

Also, the government can still regulate to protect passengers, aircrew, and the aircraft by following all FAR guided by the FAA without harming private business.

You should consider starting a business oldman?

I need some investment capital. Where's Bain Capital when you need them? :p

Who needs mega bucks when you have the average investor?!

Set up a corporation, and sell some corporate bonds set at a decent coupon rate. That is better and safer than the stock market, IMHO. Either that, or have a contract agreement with investors to get XX% of initial revenue after taxes of share from the company. No corporation should be burdened by any BoD.

I wish I could start a business, but I have no one to back me up and support me. I would love a partnership with someone. Someone I could trust to help e, where we share ideas and cooperate to meet both mutual agreement.

However, that is a pipe dream in the world of the free market.
