Bluetooth settings won't save

Last response: in Cell Phones & Smartphones

iPaq 2210

When I change settings such as my device's name, and dirctory to be
shared it doesn't save.
The new data will still be shown in the settings box, but when i search
for the device it still says the old name (Pocket_PC) and other
settings, such as services switched on remain the same.

When I soft reset, the settings visibly revert, they're simply not
saved. I can't think why this is. Anyone else had this? Anyone got any
suggestions?

I get the exact same behaviour on my iPAQ 5550.
I go into the Bluetooth Manager, alter anything I see to my
personal preferences, and close the manager.
but when I go back in after turning Bluetooth back on or
after a soft reset, all my settings are gone. it is very
frustrating and I have yet to find a solution for it.

Are you running any tweak programs such as:

Resco File Explorer
SbpPocket Plus
WinBar Advanced
Tweaks2K.Net

Maybe they are to blaim, as I installed them all recently.

I have closed/uninstalled any applications I was using to get around
smart minimise (i had it set to close, not hide windows) in case this
was causing it to just exit the settings window without saving, but this
did not make any difference.

hmmmmm

An older version of SPB Pocket Plus, yes.
but I don't think this is causing problems, i've seen the settings
disappear before I installed it. All I know right now is that
when I keep the Bluetooth radio ON, it will retain the settings.
as soon as I turn it off, they're gone.

Sounds like a registry key is gone, and the software is only keeping the
settings while active, failing to update on exit or reset. I'd say a hard
reset may be required. Of course do not restore a backup or the problem may
come back. Instead reinstall the programs you have. Make sure install
packages are available for all your programs.

Actually this is exactly what I get after a hard reset, the settings just
don't stick. I can't set security options, the Vcard, device name, or any
other non-default settings without losing them after I either turn off
the Bluetooth radio, exiting Bluetooth Manager or soft resetting the iPAQ.
However now that i'm back on this topic.. it reminds me I wanted to do
a hard reset soon anyway, there's some things about the v1.10 ROM update
that didn't seem to be working all that well either (namely alarms and the
battery time I get lately seems also less than it used to be)
So, when I get back home later today, i'll do another hard reset and will
try setting up Bluetooth again. We'll see what happens. ;)

I dont have the PDA on me at the moment, but i might try making a new
profile and seeing if that saves. Hopfully, it might be one profile's
regustry key thats broke? I'd rather not hard reset, so will be
searching around for a few more solutions before i do that...
