I have a four year old Dell Dimension running Windows ME. I've had dialup
(to Prodigy for years. Roughly about six or so months ago, I've had very
intermittent dialup service. I've done tweaks to the browser, re-installed
new DUNS, etc. On dialup, I seem to get on the internet--you see the DUN on
the right side of the taskbar but I don't really hitch on to the internet
server-- it times out--and frequently I up end with the fail to connect page
in IE. On Netscape, the message is it couldn't find the DNS server. It still
looks like I am connected but I am not, really. At this point I have to
re-start the computer and sometimes that helps to make a real connection. In
addition, when actually connected, I'm frequently disconnected and have to
re-connect.

Very recently, I attached a router to this computer receiving a signal from
another computer in my home connected to Roadrunner cable and the same thing
happens with the cable connection (on my computer) even though the router
signal is strong and set correctly. So, both cable and dialup have the same
problem. I'm also disconnected, too from the internet. In other words, the
symptoms are the same for both cable and dialup.

Any suggestions you have to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Michael Bartos

Hmm - maybe the problem is a damaged LSP/Winsock stack??
you may have spyware
Such errors are often caused by spyware - download AdAware from
www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to remove spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system.

also run the LSPFix from here

Try PestBlock from privacyanywhere (http://www.privacyanywhere.com).
It's very strong and popular spyware removal. Also it removes spyware
from LSP stacks! I'm very recommend to have it.
