Hi,

I had a wave to mp3 converter program freeze while
converting a 505mb file. I've used it several times before
with no problem, but not with this large of a file.
I received a blue screen saying C: could not write to drive,
data may be lost.
I had to turn off the computer
as ctrlaltdel would not work. Upon rebooting, the
computer hung on the splash screen. This is win98se,
ram 512mb.

I booted into safe mode and ran scan disk and it
passed the simple test, although it suggested that
I run the advanced surface scan. It passed the surface
scan with no problems.

I also ran the drive fitness test and it passed the quick
test.

However it still hung on the splash screen when trying
to boot in regular mode.

I noticed that upon turning off the APC power backup,
my printer's lights were still on, so there was some
power going thru the APC into the printer, even though the
on/off toggle switch on the APC was off. I assume then
that some power was going into the computer as well,
even though the lights were off.

Only after turning everything off and unplugging the
APC, then reconnecting everything and rebooting would
the computer get past the hang on the splash screen.

I'm wondering if this problem is indeed related to the
power supply having to be completely removed, or if
it might be something else, like a drive going bad.

Thanks,

Mark
