I have just built a new pc,with a case with firewire port on front
panel, i have a firewire card but the port on the front has six wires
coming of it, to be plugged into the M/B. My M/b has not got the
connections. My question is.....Can i make up a lead that i can plug
into the firewire card at rhe rear, then bring the cable through the
case to the front panel, by cutting a firewire lead then joining it to
the six wirres? I have a diagram of firewire cabling, but am not sure
if all leads are the same. Any help on this would be greatfully
received.

You can do that. Many firewire cards have one plug on the inside facing the
front of the case in addition to two rear plugs. If your has that then you
could use that plug it connect tot the front firewire port (you'll have to
figure out the best way to interface the two).
