Can someone tell me what the difference is between audio files
with a .mp3 extension and .MP3 extension? I'm trying to burn a cd
in Easy cd creator v.4.05 and it will not recognize the
..mp3.....it says it only supports MP3 or WAV. All my music files
are saved as .mp3. I can burn to cd in Musicmatch but not in
ECDC. If you know of a music newsgroup can you send me a link
please?
Thanks,
Janice

Janice,
The case of the extension, that is MP3 or mp3 is immaterial and should
make no difference when using Easy CD Creator. You should be able to
demonstrate this for yourself by renaming them. How ere these problem
files created? Are they really mp3 files or is it possible that they have
the wrong extension and are perhaps wma files (Windows Media Audio)?

There is NO difference between .mp3 and .MP3 file extension except for the
'case' of the letters. They are exactly the same file content (i.e.
music.mp3 = MUSIC.MP3) It should make no difference to Easy CD Creator.
However, if you are trying to burn a 'music' (or Audio) CD, then you must
select only .wav files.
..MP3 or .mp3 files are in data (not Audio) format and must be 'burnt' to a
Data CD as you would with any other data - OR you need to convert the .mp3
files to .wav files before you can 'burn' them to make a 'music' or Audio CD
Both have the option of converting .mp3 to .cda (audio format) and
vice-verca.

Mart,
Or burn audio CD using an application such as Nero or WinOnCD that decode
mp3s on the fly. Not having used EasyCD for many years and even then only
a couple of times and it was probably v3 at the time <g> I don't know if
it can also decode mp3s on the fly when burning an audio CD but feel that
it may well be able to do so if others can.

Why? <g> I'm sure you didn't expect to see me up at this time (have been
up for at least two hours).
BTW not having Easy CD do you know if, when burning an audio CD, it can
decode mp3 files on the fly in the way that both Ahead's Nero and
CeQuadrat's WinOnCD do? From Nero's help I see that it can use any of
mp3, mp3pro, wav, vqf, wma and aif encoded files when burning an audio CD.
Odd though that they don't include Ogg-Vorbis.

Don't know as I don't use EZCD now either, but don't recall it being
available in v4 when I did use it.

Funny you should mention that. <g> Bec had the get in for a new
production of Trelawny of the Wells starting at 9 this morning. Not only
an early start but a late finish the last two nights as she was busy
finishing off some props and audio cues which meant getting to bed around
4.30am on Friday but last night I think we'd both finished by 2.
She's just been engaged as SM for Madam Butterfly for two months (Opera
Holland Park
http://www.rbkc.gov.uk/ohp2005seas [...] fault.asp) so I'm
hoping that will mean some stability for a while before the panic of
getting ready for Edinburgh starts again.

Hi guys......just some thoughts from an mp3 and Roxio/Adaptec person.
I had no problems burning songs that were mp3's with Adaptec 4.03 for about
3 years. I bought Roxio 6 simply because it wouldn't burn (copy)some
specific CD's I had here and I figured I better upgrade.
I have never used Music Match to burn CD's, and should try it some time to
see if it is any faster. But Roxio 6 is just fine. You can't go to any
higher version with WindowsME......other than 6 Platinum. Version 7 is for
XP only.
In short, Adaptec 4 is rather outdated and I would advise the OP to get a
newer program for music burning. I don't have *.wav files that I
burn.....just mp3's. Just wanted to point out that I have only ever burned
mp3's....not wav's.
Hope this rambling makes some sense!! (G) And I bought this Roxio 6 on
eBay for $10 Cdn......turns out it was an OEM version, but that's OK. It
does what I want.
Cheers...Heather

Hi Heather, so are you confirming that EZCD 4 will convert .mp3 directly,
ready for burning an Audio CD as .cda?
If so, it's so long since I used it that I had forgotten and apologise to
the OP for misinformation. I use Nero, and as Mike implied, that does
convert directly.

I did record both mp3's as audio CD's and also copied a music CD for myself.
I am not all that sure of the technical language, but can only say that I
made a few CD's of music from my collection of mp3's at least 2 years ago.
As to how Adaptec 4 handled them, I have no idea. It was a lot slower than
Roxio 6, of course, but did the job just fine. Gave my sister one about 2
years ago for Christmas, so I know that the mp3's *converted*
fine.....assuming that they had to convert.
I only got the updated CD from eBay about a year ago, because I was trying
to copy a data CD and Adaptec 4 would not do it. Unfortunately, I do not
know much more than that......but I never download *.wav files and other
than a few joke songs, have none with that extension. Want some of the joke
ones? (VBG)
Perhaps I will look into Nero when I get XP on here. But I usually don't
make music CD's......just play them on here in MusicMatch. Backed them all
up as data, of course.
Cheers.......Heather

I reread my answer......and I should have been a politician....grin.
Yes.....EZ CD 4 must convert mp3's to whatever is needed. I made several
music CD's for my car and CD player. No special programs needed. Dunno
about the *.cda format, which is why I fumbled, lol.
