I've noticed when in the "windows setup" from the add\remove section that
there are no components(empty) listed at all. I do get an error message
stating "Rundll32 has caused an error in setupx.dll". What could have caused
this, and how do I get these entries back?
I have tried a varldid.reg installation and have also tried a system
restore to no avail.

Your setupx.dll error is usually the result of having deleted some empty
folders in the Program Files folder that were placed there when Win Me was
installed that are used for optional components of Win Me. Then I suspect
you used a registry cleaner which then removed some necessary entries
required for Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup to function because the
target folders were no longer present. You can avoid this happening in
future by not deleting such folders and similarly not deleting any values
in the key
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\VarLDID

I would have attached a zip file containing a reg file containing all of
the required entries to my reply but since you are using the web
interface to these newsgroups rather than a proper newsreader you would
never see the attachment. If you want me to send you the repair patch
please e-mail me at mikem@mvps.org.
