Lately, I wanted to install skype. But before, I decided to activate my microphone with the wizard found in "sound and audio devices" in settings..
Damn.. I got an error telling me that :
Error Message:
Sound Hardware Test: An error occurred during direct play voice setup. The error code is 0x80004005.
and ..
Windows Error: Windows cannot execute Dpvsetup.exe. Use Add/Remove Programs Control Panel to install.
I searched the web for some answers, try some workaround, but nothing works.
It seems to be a known bug in XP, but that's the first time I have it.
apart from hacking the registry, remove/reinstall sound card and drivers, change the dpvsetup.exe files from a working computer and reinstalling XP, is there anything else I could try?
Bomberbill is waiting for me to have a conversation with skype.. as well as my other friends on MSN..
Try the skype help tab: Troubleshooter
... might be more help subjects there too. I don't know if they have a support forum, but maybe an email support system. Good luck.
Computers have microphones :?:
What will they come up with next :!:
Sorry I just couldn't resist. I know how frustrating it can be to get an insignificant piece of hardware to work. I hope you figure the problem out. Maybe it will be something silly like having the line in jack muted in the volume control panel.
This leads me to believe you didn't disable your firewall/ antivirus when you activated windows....Overwriting won't work....time to wipe it & re-install

Windows works good. The problem is only when I try to have the mic to work.

I've looked at that, but no answer to this problem.
It seems to be a problem with game that uses mic too. lot of post about it in that situation too. Maybe a directx bug ...

no.. mic line is operational, but cannot get the mic to be initialised by direct play voice setup, so that program that use the mic don't work.
I'm not sure if I tried Skype thou.. I first started with Messenger, and this one don't work..but cannot remember if I tried skype after to see...
try start->run->sfc /scannow make sure you have your windows cd handy before you start. it's a system file checker and will verify that your files are correct.
On 2nd thought, it might be your sound card. Have you tried to use USB mics or headphones w/mics. I have Logitech headphones with mic (USB) and they work great. Seperate mics and speakers cause too much feedback.

I never had this problem with my analog mic until now. I will reinstall XP and see if I have this problem. I will either decide to get a now mic/headset USB or a new motherboard ...
By the way, to use them in messenger, do you have to go thru the dpvsetup thing?
You know, properties, sound and audio devices, voice, microphone, test material....
Mate, I bought a cheap Laser headset for $8 Aus dollars and the guys have been able to hear me crystal clear and vice versa. I dont know about re-installing XP. Something's not right there.
Drivers all up-to-date?
Do you have the pink and green connections?
Audigy 2, eh. Mate, there should definitely not be probs.
What about creative's driver site? They might have a q and a thingy to help out.
1. Go into Contol Panel
2. Open Sounds and Audio Devices
3. In the "Open Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" box - open Voice tab
4. With mic plugged in, see if it's recognized in the "voice recording" section -> use the drop down arrow to find it, (if it's there)
5. If you find it identified - run the "Test Hardware" wizard
That's all I can think of right now. Sorry, hope something helps 8O

This is where I get the error.. the test end with the message that the dpvsetup.exe cannaot be executed ...
So, I guess that if you had to do that with your USB mic, then no hope for me other than reinstall ..
Not that reinstalling is a big job... 40 minutes from moving some from C: to somewhere else to save them to thefunctionnal again point...
