I'm running windows ME on a Toshiba 2100cdt laptop. I have noticed that
when I plug in a USB flash memory stick, the "safely remove hardware" icon
doesn't appear in the Notification area (system tray). The memory works
fine and the extra drive icon does
appear under "My Computer", but what happend to the Notification area. How
do you stop it (other than with a rundll32 script or something of the sort)
.. Until know, every time I plugged in a USB module in other machines, the
unplug icon appears. This is
the only forum that has any mention of this problem (but not in the winME
section).

The "safely remove hardware" icon in the notification area ( system tray)
is for both USB and PCMCIA. To stop or activate this icon, you need to
enter the PCMCIA control in Control Panel, at least in a laptop.
