Silly really....The only thing that exceeds a formula 1 in power to weight ratio is either a funny car or rail dragster.... the family cars never stood a chance...
F1 cars are insane. At top speed due to the drag from all the downforce, simply letting
off the gas in an F1 car will produce the same force as slamming on the brakes at 150mph
in a Corvette. And Vette's have excellent brakes.
People simply can't fathom the speed and G forces those things can produce.
An old clip, but thanks, very cool to see.

WRONG! Quote me #'s, math, or a credible source for this....Sorry, just doesn't seem based anything close to reality.

From the book-Ferrari Formula 1: Under the Skin of the Championship-Winning F1-2000.
"In a midrange setting (downforce) aerodynamic drag is so high at 200 mph the
car decelerates at 1.1G when the driver lifts off the throttle. That's as hard as a Z06
Corvette brakes in a full-ABS stop. The carbon-carbon brakes contribute an
additional 3.0 G of retardation.
Keep in mind, these are stat's from the 2000 Ferrari F1 race-car. It's a complete
dog compared to the 2006.

You have been corrected...
how was i corrected? 1.1G's isn't that much, and they said its a full ABS lock? which isn't that much....1G is not that great. NOW, if we're talking about the 4+ G's from the brakes. Thats crazy.
Yes an f1 would win....but not be NEARLY as much and i bet those ones can hold their own much better then a focking regular ass car.
Yeah, it'd beat a 'supercar' by 40sec instead of the min. like in the clip.
Alright....touche, you've bested me again. You have facts that can't be touched, quoted from the best sources and with the best investigations. Oh.....wait, there are no facts. You are just guessing.
Top gear had an F1 car run their track in 59seconds. The top super cars are doing it in sub 120sec.......and the regular ass cars are doing it in 150sec.
Yes of course the F1 cars will win, they are the top of the top of the top of the top......but dont put a Zonda, Veyron, or Enzo down with a crap ass Mercedes road car.

The McLaren F1 car has a Mercedes engine, so it was quite natural they used Mercedes car for this commercial demonstration.
While having the F1 vs something like the cars you named would have been fun, it would have meant anything for the ordinary peoples that ride ordinary car.
They used 2 cars, one midrange and a higher one so that you can compare with what you drive..not what you dream to drive.
I'd rather have a commercially built merc. One built in Germany rather than South Africa, as a good mate of mine pointed out to me, Mercedes has gone to great lengths to exploit the practical aspects of globalisation as have most great Western brands like Stella Artois, Becks and Heineken. Arseholes.
As Tom would say: "Its all 'under-license' shite."
I for one, only wish to have the original for otherwise the brand - regardless of its reputability - loses all of its mystique. Such is the fickleness of branded marketing to me.

LMAO!
I wasn't quessing at all. Top gear had an F1 car run their track in 59seconds. The top super cars are doing it in sub 120sec.......and the regular ass cars are doing it in 150sec. What track was that test at? Don't know do you?
It makes a huge difference. Silverstone, where this clip is from has quite a
few high speed corners, increasing an F1 car's advantage. A smaller, tighter
track would negate some of that advantage. Even by your standards think about it.
21 sec. Actually time it. That's huge!
Granted my sources aren't as good as your Top Gear, but you clearly know nothing
about cars. It appears what you know you've learned from Grand Turismo.
Sit down, when we have a question about TV's we'll call on you.
I just bought my Grandson a 50 cc Polaris quad..... He just turned 5 Mar. 30th & he can ride it fine.... We've got a track down at the end of the sub. so I'll be down there working with him every day this summer.....
I've got what I call a wall of fame in my garage.... Photos of big air we've done & racing over the years in general!!!!! Grandson told me he wants his photo up on the wall of fame too.... I told him we'd take a photo of him getting down on the quad & put that on the wall for him!!!!! [chest puffs up with pride]

Its the top gear test track....if you want to know the exact layout...you could look it up. Easily.

Yeah like i said....F1 cars are the best because they are able to maintain speed through corners and are HELLA quick. I know this....but you were putting supercars with crap ass road cars by Mercedes. What the F1's do to the supercars....is what the super cars do to those road carss.

Nothing? Wow....ya caught me red handed. I know nothing about cars.....because i am not the #1 source on cars, i know nothing. Good call. I wouldn't say i am insane about cars, but i do know more then then the general public.

Um.....sure, But because i know more about TV's does that mean you know nothing about TV's?

REALLY?!?!?!
So if i wanted to show the true awesome power of a FX60 i could compare it against a sempron and a 3000+ venice core? They arer both AMD products....CLEARLY those are three products, for three markets made by one company. Same with mercedes....those road cars and the F1 cars have very little in common other then Mercedes name.

Ordinary people drive a Mercedes? LOL!! Sweet, where can i go pick mine up? If they wanted to show it against "ordinary" cars they would have done a Honda civic and other cars that are EVERYWHERE.....Not Mercedes.
I know what you mean though.....Going against supercars people would be like "why can't they do this againt normal everyday cars" people are never happy.

How were you corrected? You said WRONG! I wasn't, then gave the info you
requested to back it up.
1.1g's isnt much? Are you kidding? Only a handful of cars can do that using every
ounce of brake they have. I'm fairly confident you've not approached 1g in a car.
As I've said in another thread, a few years ago they built a couple 2 seat
F1 cars (behind the driver like a jet) and these cars weren't quite as fast as a
normal F1 racer, yet after 3 or 4 laps most passengers had trouble walking when
they got out.
That's awesome. Never too early to start. Once he's comfortable, get him into
carts. If the parents don't have a lot of dough though, watch out!
I wish I started earlier. Only now is racing becoming bigger up in the Northeast
trackwise. I've done a rally course up in VT and NH. A bud's got a WRX with
a cage and races in them. He let me have fun for a few hours 2 summers ago.
Rally's are awesome. The hardest thing to get used to was to go against your
natural instincts and floor it as you start the turn and let the AWD pull you through.
Especially on dirt. With lots of trees. In someone elses car. 8O
80mph down a one-lane dirt road between trees feels like 200!!!

Well 1G in a car isn't that hard, a controled 1G is harder... A car that flips over can get CRAZY G's.
MOst sports cars can do 1-1.3G's in a turn. So while i may not have a Corvette at my disposal right this second, i have however been in a corvette durring a 1.1G turn. Its harder to move, but its not crazy.
Like i said, 1G isn't that much, 4G's is crazy.

most people have a hard time walking after stressful events. Even if they kept it the Gforces around .75G's but got the speed up, and nailed the corners at 180mph.....people would be stressed, tense muscles, and then have tired limbs when they left the car after 3min of that.
I've never said that F1 cars arn't badass, and arn't the best cars for the job. Because if they weren't they would redesign and make them be the best. I dont know how i am being a bitchy little girl? i said F1 cars are as good as it gets, and are badass, and focking sweet....from the very get go.
Rereadmy first post, i still think its hillarious that you are impressed that an f1 car beat a regualr Mercedes Benz. Even with a crazy lead....the WHOLE POINT was to show how great the f1 car is, so they staggered it so the f1 car would win......it cost WAY WAY WAY more. Even a supercar can't compete with an f1, because they have limitations to be street legal, and they can't sell a 25million dollar car.
The whole point of the clip wasn't to show it could beat streetcars, but to show
by how much. As a point of perspective. That big Merc ain't exactly a dog either.
I wasn't trying to start with you, but when you jumped in with a big WRONG!,
and said that race was a joke, it was clear to me you didn't know what you were talking about.
Cool link. Think Shuey can get 3 in a row on Alonzo's home circuit? I love that
track too, one of my favorites to drive in F1 2002. I wish they'd come out with a new one.
Lots of new tracks I'd like to try.
