my windows machine has a win98se, nvidia Geforce 4 mx400. I just
recently purchased a 19" planar PL1910M lcd monitor. I am having
trouble setting the resolution on the windows machine. the resolution
was originally set for an old 17" viewsonic vg175 lcd monitor. the
screen goes black after reboot when the resolution is set at 1024X768.
I am trying to get it set at 1280X1024 resolution.

Windows will only allow you to choose resolutions that it believes your
monitor can handle safely. This is mainly to protect you (the windows user)
from destroying certain monitors by running them at resolutions that will
damage them. Now if your native resolution of the Planar 19" lcd is 1280 X
1024, it will obviously do no harm at all for you to set the output of your
video card at 1280 X 1024. But first you have to convince windows to allow
you to set this specific resolution for your video card.

Short answer: Reinstall the driver for your MONITOR, as windows does not
recognize it. Either windows is using the WRONG DRIVER, or windows needs
an UPDATED driver for your MONITOR. -Dave

Update: I finally figured out why I couldn't get the resolution I
wanted. it was a driver problem. I really messed up the drivers. what
happened was that I failed to remove the old drivers before installing
the new nvidia drivers. installing the new ones over the old drivers
screwed things up.

so, now I have it fixed!!!!

hi,

you can't go wrong with it. it is a very nice monitor, nice colors,
highest resolution goes up to 1280x1024. just make sure your card can
support it, if not you might have to get updated drivers.
