ok, i've talked about it for a long time but i am finally going to buy a monitor by the end of this week. i have narrowed it down to the sony G400 and the viewsonic p95f(both 19" flatscreens). which one of these monitors have you guys heard about/had experience with/or just plain know about? i have heard both good and bad things about the sony monitor and i have heard nothing about the viewsonic. someone please shed some light on my dilema.
I'd go the Sony. They seem to have better coverage of warranty repair agencies (at least in Australia). I think the tubes of the Viewsonics are Sony anyway.
Just as a matter of interest, have you seen the Samsung 950P's? They're actually quite good. I'm using a 900P, which doesn't have as flat a screen, but I've been happy with it.
though i don't have either. i have a buddy that's got a couple g400's. very nice, crisp, clear picture, on the whole image. sony is known for having the least amount of distortion to their monitors. and working on them is very pleasing to the eye. viewsonic though i'm very pleased with too. if their 19" pro series is anything like their 17" pro series, it should be a very nice monitor. i just got my first viewsonic (pf775) and i love it. will get a second one soon to replace my second monitor. sony has always been known for great monitors. viewsonic, up until a little bit ago i never considered any better than kds. but things are changing. i almost went with 2 gr220 (17" sony's). gosharks (who knows a good deal about monitors) gave me this link. it's a monitor selection tool. and from the preferences i gave it, the sony and the viewsonic were side by side matches. though the viewsonic will run probably $50-$80 cheaper.
oky doky, does anyone have anything negative to say about the particular models i am considering getting(sony g400 or viewsonic p95f)? i like the sony because i have heard good things about it, its less expensive(than the p95f),i hear it's very sharp, and its dpi only varies from .24-.25; but it does have those dang wire shadows on it. the viewsonic is more expensive and dpi varies from .25-.27. but i also heard that the p95f was very good for gamesin a particular reveiw. the problem is that neither monitor was tested for both text(word) and games(counter strike) in the same reveiw. and as i look at other posts in this board maybe i should get a shadow mask monitor? but i was under the impression by looking at the prices and reveiws tat shadow mask monitors weren't as good as the grille. so here i am, with about $400 to spend and i don't know which one to get still.
ok,i got it over with. i bought the sony g420 today. maybe i should have stuck with the 17 inch, this thing is huge, i feel guilty having spent 400 of my moms hard earned money on something so big. oh well.
hehe, cool! it's a good monitor. don't worry you'll soon find that you're thankful to have a nice big screen like that. tell you the truth i wouldn't use a single 17" ever again. i only stuck with 17" because i run two of em.
first of all, do you ahve any specific reasons why you think that viewsonic is better than the sony? and second of all, i already bought the sony. but i would still like to know the reasons you think viewsonic are better than sony, and also to the other poster, why is hitachi better than sony?
Take a look at the specs of the sony compared to the Viewsonic. You will notice one important thing. The max resolution on the G400 at 85Hz is 1600x1200. Compare that to the Viewsonic.
My only complaint regarding my Sony G400 is that I seem to get pretty bad eyestrain and headaches. However, I do not know for sure if its the monitor yet...I'm leaning towards it being the surrounding light in my apartment. I don't have this problem with my Hitachi 751, but the light is better suited for that computer (behind it rather than next to..)
Other than that- I'm extremely happy with the G400's quality. It looks MUCH nicer (crisp, color, etc..) than my Hitachi.
hey flyboy, what res and frequency do you run your g400 at? your headache may be casued by running the monitor at a res or freq that it wasn't made for. i didn't experience the headaches but i did hear a high pitch coem from my g420 when i ran it at resolutions under what it was supposed to run.
does anyone have a viewsonic p95f? it was between the p95f and the g420 for me and i chose the g420 but i am curious if anyone chose the p95f and if they like it or not.
