what every happened to this guys? the blue tentacle thing?
also in this level the show the plasma rifle with a flame thrower/grenade attachment on it, although the little plasma ball is sweet a flame grenade would rock ass as well.
Thats a really good question. Cause the game itself feels very short. It is over within a few hours of playing. Did they forget to put in some of the levels????
Maybe those stuff and that blue thingy should be in the levels they keep for them self...
You must have hauled ass to make it only take a couple hours Just sit back, enjoy, explore and it will last a lot longer and you will have a lot more fun.
It would definatly have been cool to see those things in the game but if you think about it it really wouldn't have fit in the story anywhere. Blue glowing things don't look like they would be from the combine or xen. I would have liked to see some updated versions of those giant green things that appeared in that rocket test chamber in black mesa. That would have been sweet.
It's called "the Hydra" and it was scrapped from the game because they did not get it to work properly. I read it somewhere on a forum and it's also covered in the book, that you get with the gold or collectors edition.
that happens all the time. even with movies. they show stuff in previews that doesnt make it to the final cut. its lame. but hl2 demos were out years before the game so its not that bad. the water thing didnt look that great anyway. just a snake thing that stabs at you, thats not that cool.
is it just me or is the ai of the combine really crappy? the only sign of intelligence i have seen is they stop shooting you to shoot other creaturs that attack them, and the fact that they try to get behind a pilar or somthing. most other times they just stand there and get shot. other than that, the game is freaking awsome. deffinately not a let down at all. screw all you people who claim the game is too short. if you just run full bore through a game and dont even bother to look at it or even try to have fun of course its gonna seem too short and feel like the game sucks. doesnt take much to figure that out. take some time and actually play the damn games, dont just try to get to the end in a pitiful attemp to increase your e penis by saying you beat it in 2 hours.
I still think the game is too short. allmost every other games I played have been more then twice as long as HL2. And for the other I dont rush any game and for that I still don't stop on each level just to look how wonderful it is. I play the games to get me an experience. If I just wonna toss some materials around to se how physics work, then I can do that in the real life. Gaming is for having fun in an surreal world that one not can enter in real life. So in my opinion: Doing trailers of a game or a movie with parts that not are included is nothing but a fraud. And according to HL2. This is the shortest game I ever played. Why did it take so long to make that SHORT game?? (yes I now the source code got stolen, but wasn't the game suppost to launch before that?? maybe a way of buying time)
The AI in the game is not that good that most people say. They shoot, got killed, and then someone else run to the very same place and also got killed. SMART?? I think not..
But. There allways is a but. And that is if the game where a bit longer and harder and they not had done a lot of commercial about stuffs that not are included, then yes. It is an incredible good game.

As jihiggs said before, it happens all the time. I prefer getting some trailers and screenshots during game development, with the possibility of stuf getting taken out again if it doesnt work, than not getting screenshots at all. The Hydra was never shown in a trailer btw, it was only in screenshots as far as I can remember. If they cant get it to work properly I prefer they take it out, over ruining my gaming experience.

The delay of HL2 had nothing to do with the source code theft. There is an extensive article and interview on that at gamespot. Being in de software project management business myself I can relate to what happpened to them, but at the core was bad management and bad communications, where it dawned too late on ValvE that they had to backtrack on that release date. I can imagine that when bad stuf happens to project you can get upto 3 months of delay, but getting a years delay at that point is mismanagement. Still, the end result is what counts for us, gamers.
I'm quite pissed at having the stutter bug prob, but my hardware is up for renewal so I hope that I will get to play the game stutter free on my new rig.
