So I want to install Windows 8 Pro on multiple computers in my household; will buying one of those Windows 8 Pro retail DVD's that say 1-license (for example the one at staples for $69.99) let me install it on these computers? There are a total of 4 computers here.

No. You need 4 licenses - 1 for each computer. You can use the same physical disk, but they will need a separate license to activate.

What did you think "1-license" meant?

Be aware there you can UPGRADE any legal XP/Vista/W7 computer for $40 (until Jan 31st 2013) to Windows 8 PRO.

If you have a 32-bit copy of Windows you must upgrade to the 32-bit copy of W8 Pro. Same for 64-bit.

You can only transfer applications if you have Windows 7

Yes you can use the same disk to install all the machines
but you need 4 keys to get them activated when they access the internet.
