Since I installed Netgear pre-n wg 511 wireless card on laptop, it almost
everytime there is a little ball wonder around on little computer icon on
right bottom corner with message said: Acquired networking address! I did
everything to solve this problem, turned off fire
wall,ping127.0..0.1,ipconfig /all, ipconfig /release,/renew and manully
assigned ip address, but it just did not work. Its seem like connect to
networking, but it don't have internet access!!!!! However, I found out in
Netgear properties at support section, I see assigned by DHCP: invaild IP
address. Although I shared wireless with roomate who has wire networking
direct hooked up on that router, my roomate works fine but me! I need some
urgent help! I have automaitic private address which is 169.254.0.0, its
good! i don' know hwat is going on?

The 169.254.0.0 address indicates that your computer is expecting to get
its IP address from a DHCP server and is not finding one. Try disabling
any connectivity manager that came with the Netgear card and using
Windows Wireless instead. Here are links to help you:

hi,

if your computer worked with the ip address "169.254.0.0" you could make
that the perminant ip address for your computer by giving it a static ip.

before you do it you need to find out your dns server addresses and your
router's ip address. you can do that by clicking on the wireless icon on
your taskbar and then click Status. then click on the Support tab. then
click Details, under where it lists the ip address you have currently.

in the details window you will need to write down the Subnet Mask, the
Default Gateway, and the DNS Servers.

then go back to the Status window and click on the General tab. and then
click on properties at the bottom.

in that window, scroll down in the list and then click on Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP).
there, click "Use the following ip address:"
then type in the ip address you said worked where indicated, same thing with
the subnet mask, and the default gateway. Then type in the DNS servers in
that you wrote down. if you wrote down three only put in the first two.

after that it should work.
