Floppy Drive

I'm trying to run a game from a floppy disk that I used on Windows 95 on Windows 7. But I get an error message saying its not compatible with my version of windows. Any ideas on how I can make it work?

Set up a virtual machine of Windows 98 (preferably 98 SE) using something like VirtualBox (ensure you have a copy of Windows 98 handy as well...). Install and play from there.

You could also change the properties (CTRL-ENTER) of the exe file and change the compatibility to simulate an older version of Windows.

win 7 gives you compatibility options, just use the wizard that comes up when the install fails

The problem with compatibility mode is that Windows 9x era games usually require the underlying DOS layer present in Windows 9x versions. The compatibility mode options only report the Windows version number to the program you're trying to run, differently. Trying to run games this way doesn't usually work unless it was built during the life of Windows XP or Vista.

Edit: And even then, it's hit or miss as to whether compatibility mode will work or not.

Virtualisation sounds like the way forward.

DOSbox potentially (depending on game), else an older version of windows in VMware/Virtualbox etc.
