CMOS Issues on K7S8XE+

I am running an ASRock K7S8XE+ 1.0 with 512ofPC2700 and a Duron 1.3 that I
built in October.

It ran/runs terrific, but...

A while back I found out that I needed batteries in my Cyber Power 900AVR
when the power went out and the computer stopped instantly. I thought things
were fine after, but I noticed a day or three later that it was showing
configuration searches in POST and referring to SATA that are not installed.
When I went into CMOS I saw that everything was reset from the second floppy
not there to the AGP set as PCI and so forth.

I reset it all and ran it fine until tonight when I put a new mouse on it
and it hung on POST saying to run CMOS again and everything there was reset
all over again.

I do not boot this thing every day... sometimes not for a week or two and
others three times in a day depending on what I'm doing or if I need into
another OS's partition and it seems fine otherwise.

What the heck??????

I should mention that I have an 400FSB XP2900+ and larger drive and another
512 stick ready to put in this board as soon as my copy of Acronis arrives
and I don't know if it would be a cool time to do major upgrades if the CMOS
is flaking out on me.

So, do yunz think that is all? Nothing points toward anything more?? I guess
as a former K7S5A owner I'm conditioned to think of this sort of thing in
the worst case scenario right outta the chute.

There's no negative history with this board or anything, I guess???????

Thanks

I agree however 1 point to note."Dirty Data" can be retained in the
CMOS so get a new Battery(they is cheap enough) put it in but use the
Clear CMOS jumper after you put the new battery in and reset your BIOS
parameters.I've been using the same motherboard for over 2 years now
and it's so goddam boring stable nowt to fix :/
Bring back me ECS :O or a VIA Chipset<BFG> :p

Thanks, Shep... I was actually hoping to draw you out with the model in the
subject line. I know that you have good experience with them.

With my last ECS I was one of those 'hey I never had a problem' replies...
but when mine started going south I was glad I'd seen those others.

I actually tried, recently, to get another one of these but there were none
to buy in the US... so I bought an Asus A7V600 and time will tell on the VIA
deal. My last VIA was in a DFI K6BV3+ with a K6+ at 600 and I was happy as a
clam with it and the Asus board is actually be replacing it while it will
become a dedicated machine for broadcasting internet streams from around the
world to all of my FM radios here at home. I know that some have issues with
VIA, but if I get half the satisfaction from it as the last I'll be a happy
man.

I'll try to stop at Radio Shack on the way home tomorrow and get the battery
if there are no tales of similar woe.

Thanks

The symptom suggests a dead battery. Whether there's 'more' wrong with it,
well, it's an ECS.

Ah. Well, as a former K7S5A owner, and apparent masochist for buying
another ECS board, you should know that just because it works for the
moment doesn't mean there's nothing else wrong with it (voice of
experienced K7S5A Pro owner).

I don't know whether that one's built its' own special reputation or not.

Well, as I look back I think I must have had a boulder in my eye, or too
little coffee, or something, because I completely missed the Asrock name.

Isn't that Asus's 'inexpensive boards' spin off?
