I would like to put my HP 5i50 printer at some distance from my PC.
Where can I buy a 25' USB 2.0 cable? Can two or more shorter cables be
hitched together? I hope this is possible as it would save this old
guy a lot running back and forth. Thanks for your help. Og in TX

Normal USB 2.0 cables can't be used beyond 16 feet. You will need a repeater
cable to extend your range. Here is a link for the required cable.

Silly question but...

How does putting your printer 25 feet away "save this old guy a lot running
back and forth"?

I could understand it if you wanted to bring it closer than it currently
is..

You can get up to about 80 feet using multiple of the
following cables (16 feet each):

PCH Cables is a store local to me (I buy by walking in)
and you can get just about any cable imaginable there, and
at a good price.

It's run by PC Heiden who used to have a good computer clone
store locally for a long time (across from one of Intel's
facilities in Hillsboro, Oregon).

Another solution might be to get a USB print server and string 25' of cat5
cable to connect your printer (assuming you have a local ethernet).
