I am working in an old computer lab that has been using coax for about the last 5 years. Now the building is networked with CAT 5 so I decided to take on the project of removing the COAX and switching to CAT 5. However I cannot get the computers to hook up with the new network. I dont know if the BNC connector is still trying to be used but for some reason when I plug in an RJ45 cable and hook it up with all the settings it will not do anything. It is like it is not even connected. There is no information on these cards, so I dont know the brand. I have checked for jumpers on the card, but there are none. What do I do? They use a NE 2000 or compatable Novell/Anthem Driver. Work fine on COAX thru BNC but wont do crap when I switch to RJ45. Can anyone help please!?
Are they are NE2000-compatable ISA cards with both a BNC and a RJ45?
Seeing as there aren't any jumpers on the cards, I am going to assume they use and EEPROM for their settings, just like the other cards of this type I have seen. You need to configure the card to use the RJ45 port instead of the coax connector.
If this is the case, let me know, and I'll forward you a DOS utility that changes all the settings, includeing irq and i/o port.
That sounds correct to me, but I am kinda new to this world. I know that they are NE2000 compatable ISA with BNC and RJ45 that is correct. Hopefully that dos utility is what I need. Please hook me up!
If I recall correctly in the adapters settings via Windows Control Panel you ca also configure the connector type. When using coax you had to specifically set it to BNC. I'm assuming you'd have to manually go back and set it to not use BNC if this is the case.
Going on memory here.... so don't quote me. I have no cards with multi-connectors so I can't verify.
