whoah, you could link them all together and use them all as a hob for cooking!
i doubt they would be worth much in the future...why would anyone want a bunch of unsupported CPUS?
People collect stamps, coins, dishes, toys...same thing: you'll be hard-pressed to find a full collection like that in a hundred years, but it is something that's (very much) part of our history.
Oooh! - oooh! I need that - gotta fix my old PC/XT.
Nice collection though - not worth 2500 today though, unless it includes P4 prescotts - EE version. (didn't want to wade through the screen full of abbreviations...)
You people make fun, but you really shouldn't. Mint condition, some of those things will be worth a lot in a hundred or so years.
The "failed", "worthless" yet rare pieces of hardware especially. Like the Virtual Boy. Or the Atari E.T. game.
Think about it, original movie posters for classic movies go for crazy-stupid prices these days.
The only problem is finding the pieces that will become collectibles in the future. Something like the first generation of CPUs is a safe bet, but I wouldn't know which one: 8080, 8086, 8088, etc. would have more "geek"/collector value, or if it's even an Intel chip. Also, things like dates and revisions will matter a great deal - an April 1974 released 8080 will be the only one really worth a fortune.
I'm not a collector myself, but I did keep my original Pentium CPU - it's shiny and pretty. (My chip isn't scratched and dirty like that).
I also found a an old Compaq server from which I pulled a Pentium Pro.
Heh. Well my point was that most of those CPU's aren't worth the silicone inside them today so it certainly doesn't add up to $2500. Like Snorkius said - in a hundred years or so some of them will be worth quite a bit. How much is a 1.5ghz Willy worth today however? (umm, well, if I had a willy that could go 1.5ghz, I'ld be... very tired and very happy. 8) )
