Have an error on my 780, alternate flashing of red and green lights and will not perform any function. Cannot move cartridges to exchange position by normal method. Status reports error "Parts inside your printer require maintenance or replacement. Contact your dealer." I am not a novice and like the way this printer has performed in the past.
The following has been done:
Thoroughly check for paper jams
Swapped cartridges ( I refill)
Reinstalled driver
Cleaned excess ink from parking station
Examined entire printer for apparent mechanical problems.
I am now at a loss. Nothing makes a difference in the error. Can anyone give me any information to help before I start testing this printers flight characteristics.

You soak up ink pad is full, need to be replaced..

Didn't know the 780 was capable of producing that error. However, it is not full because it has been cleaned. If you are correct how is the error reset? Thanks for your response.

Puss, your answer was right on the money. Reset the counter for the waste ink pad using the SCC Service Utility and it worked. Thanks!

Please ONLY post in plane text thanks, so turn the HTML thing off thanks, and

You have hit the magic time bomb built into all Epson printers, called
"It thinks your waste ink pad are full". They may be, although in
general the number are very conservative, and you can run it for at
least one more cycle.
Underneath the cleaning station are some tubes which lead to a dish
filled with "diapers" which hold all the ink your use up cleaning the
heads and purging between cartridges.
Once the printer believes that enough ink should have ended up in there,
to prevent it from leaking out the bottom, the printer goes into the
mode you find yours in now.
What Epson suggests you do is go to an Epson authorized service depot,
likely wait a week for parts, and have the waste ink pads removed and
replaced, at a cost of over $50 US, and then the tech person will reset
the numbers on this counter to zero again.
There are two ways to reset this code. One is usually a series of
button presses from the front panel, and the other is through a piece of
software from Russia that is available for free download on the web.
I do not have the button sequence for the 780 printer, so you can try
the software method. The technique is referred to as "resetting the
protection counter"
After doing this, if you are worried the extra ink may leak from the
bottom, you may wish to keep your printer in a shallow tray so your
furniture or important papers do not get ruined.

Puss, I am not set for HTML but did have wrap at 80. My reader is a real one, OE. I have used the others and this is my preference because I have another life.

And, very much a matter of personal choice. If you listed the attributes of 'a real one' it would be your list of preferences. Only my opinion, of course. *vbg*
