Folks,

I need buying advice for a P4 (not interested in AMD for now).
My system integrator (aka friend) has suggested the following combos:
- P4 3.0 GHz (socket 775) with Intel 951 GAV-L motherboard OR
- P4 2.4 GHz (socket 478) with Intel 845 motherboard
He suggests that for the price difference the first option is a better
one.
Now, I live in India and here we don't have a too wide choice in terms
of motherboards. I have been on the Net for the past few days trying to
compare essentially Intel, Asus, and Gigabyte motherboards. Tough luck
- too much information to really narrow down to a particular model.

Can anybody here suggest a suitable processor and mobo combo? Also any
suggestions for a decent graphics card (AGP or PCI), sound card (again
not too fancy or expensive), and a DVD writer will also help.

Thanks in advance.

-Samir

Hey,

If you're NOT mastering captured video and therefore DON'T need TWO
internal HDDs in the box; these systems are really good:

Might be hard to find in India, try the Tiawanese home site(?)

I suggest buying an external video card (not using the onboard video) with a
cooling fan as these small cubes get hotter if pushed really hard (ie
games).

good luck

I just finished an I-660 S-775 with the Asus P5GDC. You will need to get a
PCI Express video card with that board. That is the way things are going
now. The board will use either (but not both) DDR or DDR2 memory. So if you
have DDR laying around, you can still make use of it. There is no AGP at all
on the P5GDC. It is a very good, and fast system.
