How to make HTPC on windows 8

What components will i need to make an HTPC on windows 8? Will a TV tuner and a wireless card do? I am looking to replace my cable tv box (that records shows, has channel surfing menu, etc.) with my computer to save some money. I do not know what other parts I might need and what softwares I would need to get this to work on a windows 8 pc.

This is the build I built for myself for $300. It cannot fit a TV tuner or wireless, its only for pure playback only:

- Antec ISK 300 w/ 95w adapter
- 4GB KVR 1333MHz, auto downclocked to 1066MHz
- Gigabyte H61N-USB3
- Samsung 830 64GB
- Intel G540
- Win 8 Pro for $15.

If you want a TV tuner and all the trimmings you need an mATX case, an mATX/ATX board and an i3.

I'm confused, my original question was what I would need to make an HTPC on windows 8, not a regular computer. I already know how to make make a regular computer, but thanks for the input anyways.
