one is a 'bare' drive?

ST3120024A or 26A?

ST3160023A ?

A matter of older model but higher storage size Vs newer -smaller?...pricing
is determined by what you bought them for( and other things) for instance,
If you bought 500 120's at a higher price and bought 5000 160's for a better
price, type of scenario. Also 120's are popular has they are under the 137g
partition size limit(windows) that although fixable, some people opt for 2x
120's rather than 1x 200.

thanks again...
what is a 'bare' drive?
it is ST3120026A (the 120 gb) and the 160 gb is ST3160023A

on 1 site there were 102 ratings for the 120 gb (it seems to be older) and 7 for
the 160 gb (but it is cheaper than the 120 gb -- $2.00)

i have not bought either *yet* since i still do not see a difference (in size --
yes) the bios will support > 137 gb (and it is going to be xp (i thought the
bios was the 137 gb limiting factor?))

i still cannot see other differences (even comparing on chiefValue's Web site)

They are the same, except one contains 40 GB more of capacity.

i am sorry for not mentioning that they cost the same... just wonder whether
there is something about the 120 gb that would make it *more valuable*
thanks

Around 40 Gb...

But many problems have been reported with 160 Gb drives. My own, also a
Seagate 160 Gb, had lost sectors before two years, causing an OS failure.

thank you -- i had unfortunately omitted the part about the difference in
size (they cost the same though).
perhaps the fact that there are problems with the 160 gb (that you mention)
is why the 160 gb drive is relatively cheaper.
thanks!
p.s. are there problems with the 200 gb that you know of?

One of the drives probably is an OEM. It's just the drive. No cables or
manual(probably).
Besides the fact that one is bigger there may be no difference in performace
at all. But sometimes it's hard to tell if one drive is a generation ahead
of another drive. Sometimes it's only a matter of a letter/number in the
model number.

hello,
the purchases of the 120 gb and the 160 gb drives were made at different
times (that is why the size differences did not reflect the prices)
thanks for everyone's help

thanks for the reply...
in the meantime i heard (from the manufacturer and the retailer) that there is
no difference in the 2 drives (aside from the capacities) but the prices changed
between the time the 120 gbs were purchased from seaGate and the time of the 160
gb drives were purchased

hi,
thanks for answering...
according to the drive seller and manufacturer the 120 and 160 were bought at
different times and that is why they cost the same now
