I have major issues. Does anyone know where I can get some documentation on
the negative effects of win 2000 clients running in a NT domain. My servers
are old and could not be upgraded to windows 2000. Specs for the servers are
450 pentium II dual processors. Is this sufficient first of all because we
tried to load win 2000 and it would not take. Running the win 2000 clients
we are experiencing numerous errors on the servers, the virtual memory fills
up fast and we have to reboot to clear, accessing the public drive is very,
very slow. Where can I find some help. Would love to start fresh but cant
afford the downtime and the loss of information. All your assistance is
appreciated. Thanks. rmcbran@hotmail.com

DNS, all together now DNS.
Win2K uses DNS for everything.
You will need a DNS server for "Your Network". Not Your ISPs DNS. And since
you have NT you will have to manually enter all the data (I hope your
network is not too large).
Better if you have a Win2K Server with Dynamic DNS.
Which should run on a 450 MHz (I think 133 MHz was the bottom limit).
Chances are it is other hardware that stops the install, such as SCSI
adapter. Inventory the machine's hardware, go to the manufactures web and
look for updated drives. (I think there was/is a hardware checker, but not
sure where, sorry!).

Also do you have a WINS server? Are you using NetBEIU? Do you have NetBIOS
over TCP enabled? Do you use HOSTS or LMHOSTS?
Do you understand any of these questions? All are related to the method of
name resolution "You" use on "Your" network.
