Migrate from NT to 2003

Hi,

I have a domain with an NT as PDC and a 2000 member server.
I want to install a new box with 2k3 on it, and decomission the NT box...
What do I need to do to get all the user accounts from the NT box seemlessly
over to the 2k3 box? The only other thing the NT box does is DHCP, which is
much easier to resetup than creating all those users and permissions
again...

Thanks

Promote the Win2k3 to a DC, (Use a different NetBIOS domain name) then use
ADMT to migrate the NT4 domain accounts to the Win2k3 domain. This will work
totally seamless and can even migrate the SIDs and user profiles. The only
thing that has to be different is the NetBIOS domain name, so you can set up
trust between the domains which allows you to use ADMT.

And I don't need to use the NETBIOS name as I'm not pulling across any
shares - so there shouldn't be a hitch...

Thanks heaps!

How do you promote a W2K3 Server to be the Domain Controller? When I view
the Server Manager on my Windows NT4 PDC box it does not give me the option
to promate my W2K3 Server. Do you have to make the W2K3 Server an Active
Directory Server first? I was told you could not have a Windows NT4 PDC
Server on the same network with a W2K3 Active Directory Server?

You should just be able to run the dcpromo.exe command from the 2k3 box.
Follow the steps that dcpromo.exe displays.
