I was wondering about something. I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS soundcard in my old system I built about 3 years ago. I have heard motherboards have increased the quality of onboard sound since I built my last system.

I am now building a new system using a DFI nF4 Ultra-Infinity Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard. It comes with the Audio Chipset AC97 Codec.

I am using the SuperFlower SF-201T3 case. My last system has 5x fans, (2x 90mm and 3x 80mm) in it and I ended up with some distortion at times in sound quality, (especially when using a mic) until I got a sound card. My new system will have 5x 80mm fans in it.

I would like to use the front Audio ports for gaming but also would like to use my speakers for movies. Now I have no clue how things work with sound cards and front audio ports to be honest. Heck I don’t even know if the sound card I got will work for that.

Is it worth taking out the old sound card and putting it into the new system or will the onboard audio work good enough?

Thanks for any and all replies guys; any input would be greatly appreciated. :D

i have a p5gd1 with realtek hd audio, it was picking up noise.
All the components are so close together they snap crackle pop!
had to lower main volume and push speaker volume to have decent sound. this was a disaster for recording.

So i plugged back my sb live. better software bundle no noise...

onboard audio got better but no good enough..

 The audigy is a good card use it !

Thanks for the replies.

I was thinking of reusing my old sound card but was not totally sure if it would be worth it or work for the front audio ports is all.

Basically it is worth it to reuse it.

I assume the front audio ports will hook up to the motherboard and then in turn would go through the sound card if there were one installed. At least I hope that is how it works…

If anyone can let me know if the above is how it works or not if you get a chance?

Thanks for any and all replies. :D
