Between the 2 processors that you listed, the Sempron should be faster especially if you are overclocking it. If you are going for the Celeron system you might consider getting a 945 chipset if its in your price range. It can support dual core processors if you ever upgrade later.

The thing working against the Sempron though is that its still using Socket 754 which is already a dead-end platform. If you don't plan on upgrading later the Sempron is fine. If you do plan on upgrading, an Intel platform might be a better idea since you can drop in a P4 later. As I mentioned before the 945 can support dual cores as well as Intel's next generation architecture with Conroe. I think that the cheapest Sempron on Socket 939 is the 3000+ which might be out of your price range.

For graphics cards, obviously the highers the better within your price range. Both the 6600GT and the 6800XT are good value for their performance. The 6800XT may still be hard to find since its new.

tks~

performance
sempron is slightly higher than celeron (non-oc)

oc-performance
sempron could outperform p4-630/amd64 3K+/sempron3400+
when they are oc to 2.xG (300Mhz+ FSB) in overall performance

platform
945p is an ideal choice for Intel, while, a Oced Sempron is better than a normalP4-630, it seems that there is no need buy a Celeron then upgrade a P4-6series cpu later, only 8series is acceptable.but a value platform has only a small chance to upgrade a mid/high-end dual core 8series CPU,right?

intel chipset has the superior compatibility and runs stable...it's appealing.
PT880Pro have a AGP8x plus PCiE4x and Duo DDR1/2 at the same time, that's wonderful, but the stability is doubtful.

we have nF4-x and C51 ,KT890 for the S754 CPUs, but nil powerful successor(e6 amd64)....ya, agree that S754 is going to "dead" and s939 sempron might came out in Q1-2006. if there was a low end Sempron939 now, we could easily catch the answer ~
also single channel DDR1 with S754 is a spot

all in all, there is a little bit confused when making the decision....

well, for the integrated 6200TC in C51, do you think it could totally defeat a dated MX440 or Ti4200?

If you want performance now and aren't planning on upgrading later then just go with a Sempron64. Since your planning on overclocking anyways, the performance should be fine.

The integrated graphics in the C51 is not actually a 6200TC. The 6100 only has 2 pixel shaders and 1 vertex shader which means the performance is significantly less. While it should easily beat the MX440 since that was a DirectX 7 generation card, the Ti4200 should still be faster since it has more pixel and vertex shaders. However, the Ti4200 is a DirectX 8 generation card. If you are really looking for decent gaming performance you should at least try to get a 6200TC with 32MB or RAM or a 6200 nonTC. Those are both cheap and offer a lot better performance than an integrated 6100. In fact the 6200 nonTC 128-bit version should be faster than the TI4200 since its both its core and memory are clocked faster and it has 1 more vertex shader.
