can a bad CPU prevent me from being able to shut the computer down with the power button? The mobo has been replaced, the video card and RAM have been checked. It's either the CPU or the power supply.
The CPU is a AMD Socket 939 3500+ and the power supply is an OCZ
The computer starts and all the fans run, but there is no POST. The mobo and video card are both new and I have tested the RAM. I have also pulled the mobo out of the case and started it on a static free surface to eliminate the possibility of a case short.
The only way to turn the computer off is to throw the switch on the power supply. I have been told that it is the CPU and I have been told it is the power supply and am trying to find someone who might know for sure.
Also, there are no error beeps on start up....no noise at all.
So, you turn the system on and the fans spin but there's no video and no POST beep? Since you've already tried the mobo, it's probably the CPU. The Power supply might be the problem, but its not likely because if it was bad, there wouldn't be any fans.
Mike.
PS: 'Computer starts' was throwing me off - since the computer isn't starting if there's no POST...
