Problem enabling "Internet Connection Sharing"

Last response: in Cell Phones & Smartphones

Now that I've got my iPAQ (3870) talking to my PC, I'm trying to surf
the 'Net with the iPAQ.

I've tried to follow the instructions at:

<http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=445>

but when I try to enable Internet Connection Sharing on the PC, I get an
error dialogue:

Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled. The LAN
connection selected as the private network is either not
present, or is disconnected from the network. Please ensure that
the LAN adapter is connected before enabling Internet connection
Sharing.

What should I do now? (Apart from have a beer, that is!)

It may be relevant that I connect to the 'Net through an ADSL router.

You should not need ICS. Simply bring up the ActiveSync dialog from the task
tray, select "File - Connection Settings" from the menu bar, then check the
box labeled "Allow network blah blah blah".

Yes, but then you have some restrictions... For example you have narrow
bandwidth, and no access to shared drives/folders.

Nobody asked if the OP is trying to do this from the cradle via USB or some
other way. If so, ICS is irrelevant and Internet Pass-Through is what
should be working, with Mauricio's limitations. If connecting via WiFi, or
some wired Ethernet solution to a PC directly connected to the ADSL Router
or even to the router, then ICS is the solution..

This is just because you network card is "disabled" just right click
on the LAN and then select "enable". If you have time take a look at
my Tutorial / Pictorial at:

Just as another point of reference.

Cheers,
Ivan
