ATI x1800 XL or eVGA 7800GT CO?

As the title says, im looking at getting a video card for my new gaming machine and im not sure whether to get the x1800XL or the 7800GT CO. Which would you guys rather have? Pro's I can think of for each is that the x1800XL has a more rich feature set, but the 7800GT has the SLI upgradability. I know I can get a CF motherboard, but unfortunatly I am limited to shopping at Fry's for my motherboard so I can get either the DFI Ultra-D or SLI-D (not DR).

Which will have better in game performance? Which would you guys rather have?

Well let me break this down like this....

The X1800XL is a little ahead but bascially evenl with the 7800GT....but the 7800GT is about 100bucks cheaper.

If you dont mind the X1800XL price, you could afford a 7800GTX...which would outperform a XL.


if i had 350bucks i would get the 7800GT with a free copyof COD2 for $339 up front with a $30 mail in rebate.

For 300 bucks you can't beat a 7800GT.....[/url]

For the XL price you might as well get a GTX. So with your poll I'd get the GT because it's cheaper and ATLEAST just as good and IMO better.

Besides that; Because of current prices, the 7800GT easily has my vote.

Sorry guys, there's an important bit of information I had forgotten to include in my original post. That is, I can get either the 7800gt or the 1800xl for the same price ($320).

So, excluding price as a factor, which would you reccomend from a performance standpoint?

Well that changes things....Personlly i dont really know what i would do.
i know the 7800GT OCs reasonably well, i dont know about the X1800XL...

Also i would look at heat, noise, and features.

If every one of those is the same....do you like the color red or green?

What games do you play. They are pretty equal performers and trade blows depending on the game, but I'd say the 7800GT has a slight edge overall performance wise and the X1800XL features-wise. Personally I'd go for the X1800XL if prices were the same, or the 7800GT if it saved me money. I guess brand would come in too. I'd snatch up a HIS X1800XL as a first choice, and would prefer BFG or Gainward for NV.
