Hi all.
I have a Nv 4400gt in my 1 ghz system, and im wondering if an upgrade to current cards would be worth it. ie, will the old cpu limit the performance gain of new gpu?

thansk! yes, thansk.

Good news and bad news....You could upgrade, and it might provide a small jump in games

but you are bascially done with that CPU.....you will need a new CPU to run current GPUs....by current i mean anything from a 6600-7800GTX

You dont have to have a beast machine, but you will need something more then a p3

Considering the games that would benefit most from a GPU upgrade won't even run on a 1GHz CPU, I'd say keep that GF4 Ti4400 (if that's what a NV 4400GT is) Not worth upgrading at all.

Do not waste money on a new card it is pointless the gf4ti4400 is 'in tune' with the p3 1ghz

Why d'ont you overclock the card ? it could give you more than you expect...

Another thing to think about is that the holidays are right around the corner and if the season doesn't go that great for the big OEM's you might find a killer deal afterwards.

That's what I'm hoping for.

Plus I think there's an over-saturation in the mid-to-high-range with what, at least 10 models now? Used to be 1 low, 1 mid, and 1 high from both companies. This full spectrum can't but push down the less successful models in price.

Look at dell now that they are starting to carrry AMD
Find a pretty low end deal and then put a new video card in there.

a new low end dell can be had for around 399....plus a 200card....that would be a good 600 gaming system.

Whoa, careful. haven't looked into an AMD Dell, but low end Dell usually means integrated graphics without a slot for upgrading. Basically throw aways. 8O

True, thats a concern....
but i know that every dell that my dad was looking at (all 399-699 machines) had AGP slots.

but thats a good call....Get the cheapest Dell with AMD and a AGPslot/PCIe slot, Double check they have one or the other.....either will make good gaming machines on the cheap.

a1130e get the upgrade for the RAM to512 and leave the rest as is...

This is a HP that i found with a AMD 3200+, 512 RAM, 40GB HDD for $380....i think it has PCIe so with a 6800GS for $200 you should have a very good cheapr gaming computer.

if you are looking for a more powerful soultuion, let me know.....
