alright, i'm planning a computer build, my first, and am concidering videocards. the mobo i'm leaning towards has pcix, and i'm wondering what to get. i've been looking for agp cards forever, and know next to nothing about pcix cards, so could someone help me out? i'm looking to spend $190 or less. Any suggestions?

here's what i'm thinking as my specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
CHAINTECH VNF4 mobo
1 gig (2x 512) Corsair value select
Atrix 500w psu

p.s.: i don't plan on overclocking, after what i did to my parent's computer... if that changes anything

ok, u can get some very amazing gfx's for $190

here are some options, in order of better performance, i think....

Radeon X800XL 256mb w/ crossfire $129.99 *rebate
Radeon X800GT 256mb crossfire $135.99
Radeon X800GTO 256mb crossfire $184.99
Radeon X850 XT Platinum!!!!!!!! $199.99* rebate
hey a little over, but a big boost in performance
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Geforce 6600GT 256mb SLI $184,99
Geforce 6800 256mb SLI $187.99 *rebate

I would recommend the XT cuz it'll last longer and get u better performance plus i'm an ati fan

they're all from tigerdirect.com

anyone correct my ranking if i'm wrong

u might wanna ask around to see which one is better

Good luck!!!!!

For what was listed above...the X850XTPE is the best deal there....but with a rebate.
if you only have $200 to work with get a 6800GS....its very good and for 199shipped at Mwave 2days ago.

Didnt see that part...

Why the 3500+ and only a 190$ 12 pipe card??? If your going with a slower card then why not something like a 3000+ (1.8GHZ) and OC it to 3500+... and even if you dont wana OC because you screw up your parents computer look at the differences in performance for 70$ I would wrather get a 3000+ Venice and then spend the 70 extra bucks on a good 16 pipe PCI-E card.

Going from a $190 to a $260 graphics card you aren't really jumping in performance....if he could cut more and get to about 320 and geta 7800GT that would be great. I dont know what i would do....probably lower the cpu to 3200+ and get a 6800GS....and have a couple bucks left over for pizza.

lol. arright, so i should go with the 3200? with no oc? why? is the 3500 just not better enough for the money? i just want the best bang for my buck! so is the 3200 my chip? and, i'm slimming it down to the X850XTPE, and the 6800GS, in the gpu department. any other suggestions? what i want this computer for is flash animation, gaming, and various other generic tasks. think this'll do well in those areas?

Bascially if you are going to OC your system....its better to buy a 3200+. they are the same as thr 3500, with a lower multiplier....if you OC the 3200+ to around 2.6 you should be flying in just about everything you want to do....

As for the gpu....look around online and find the cheapest NEW, not refurbished X850XT....if its under 230...get it, if not get the 6800GS and OC that....its 199shipped from Mwave.

There ay go....that cpu, with either of those two cards will do you for quite a while.

okay, i didn't want to overclock, but can my memory, mobo, processor, and either of those gpus take it? i assume so, but its worth the asking, after corrupting the sh*t outta my folks computer, and....goersh....bad times. anyway, what do you think my inexperienced 14 yr. old success rate will be? good, i hope?

you dont have to OC....the 3200+ and the 6800GS stock are a great option for a low cost gaming system....OCing just makes it a little bit better.

Ocing adds more complication because some prts OC well and some dont. You woul have to reconsider the parts you want and the price you are willing to spend....your call though.

eh, f' it. i'll stay clean. my next question was could i get it oc'd on air, but i'm not even going to bother. 8O gaming mediocrity makes me happy. are you sure, with no overclocking in mind, is the 3200 my best choice?

don worry bout the cpu thing. technically, the 3200 is identical to 3500 with slight OC. so for 50 bucks less u can get the same thing. this is only good if all you want is a 3500 stat. if you can get more juice in the future, go with the 3500.

because there is very tiny gaming performance to be had form the 3500+ as opposed to the 3200+.....save yourself some money and you will lose nearly nothing...
