I'll take physical keys to my grave, but I think you are right about the touchpad dying relatively soon. I have a touch screen netbook, and after using it a while I found that I used the keys and touch instead of the keys and mouse as it was just faster and easier. With upcoming technologies such as leap motion, kinect 2, and ever improving voice control I think the touch pad will be a thing of the past for most machines.
