im still running an old leadtek Geforce 4 ti4200 128mb. got this thing around .. oh i'd say 3 yrs ago.

im been looking around and for the money the best i've found is this 139$ card from newegg.

it's an eVGA geforce 6600 GT 128MB agp 4x/8x

I haven't been able to see any charts on showing me how much improvement i will see.

I run HL2 on this current ti4200 pefectly fine and everything looks great. but dies on BF2 lol.

for the price i don't think i can go wrong.

also i don't see any problems with power since both 4x and 8x agps all use 1.5v

i have a really simplified system anyway.. I used to have 2 opticals and 3 hds

i have now simplified and have just 1 optical and 1 HD.

psu problems aren't a concern .. it's a 430w enermax there's plenty of power to go around.

I'm trying to find out how much power a Raptor would use. I still don't believe there would be any problems in power adding a raptor, but i don't think i'll be adding one.

---------------------------------
Only reason im going with an older card compared to whats out, is because i plan on upgrading by the end of 06 anyway so i didn't wanna wait till that long without playing these games.

You haven't seen the ti4200 on charts with the 6600GT because they aren't even in the same league. You will see significant improvement with the 6600gt and will be able to play BF2 - that's assuming BF2 is patched and you have min 1GB RAM for good playability. BF2 is a mem hog. PSU should be good to go with that rig - even after adding another HDD.

well honestly i have ZERO bad to say about my ti4200, this thing has been a champ since day 1. I run HL2, Maddens, DOD cs SOURCE... they all run excellent. But i wanna take it to the next level before i switch over to pci-e in end of 06. Hopefully by then they come out with something that makes the 7800 GTX BFG oc card look like garbage. lol

well maybe you didn't correctly see what i wrote. but i am indeed going with a 6600GT by eVGA the reviews on newegg left me no choice but to say yes to the purchase. i think if i remember right is was around 231 review and it got 5 outta 5. it was a eVGA 128MB 6600GT for 139$ with a 20$ mail in rebate and free 3 day shipping, that is one hell of a deal.

thanks.

my whole change of mind was because i am not building new system till end of 06 (wanna wait for the FX line to drop, or x2-4800) also better mobo's for those Cpu's.

But the main thing was i didn't have the money for the full detailed all out rig i wanted to build.

and since this system is running great at stock i figured i just need a decent new gfx card and maybe a raptor and i'll be good for atleast another yr.

I just finally OC'd this bad boy from 2.25ghz to 2.38ghz (maybe higher soon) and with this graphics card and raptor, this beaut should handle COD2 and AIM and browsing pefectly fine. that's about all i do.

If it does the job that you need, then don't mess around with it.
If it ain't broke, then don't fix it! By the time you want to upgrade you'll be able to go socket M2. Don't get any extra DDR RAM - you'll go DDR2 with M2.

You can buy the Connect3d X800GTO from newegg right now for 149 dollars...

Get it anyday over the 6600gt 128mb and unlock it to 16 pipes, overclock to x850xt speeds with ease....

Now if that's all you want to spend. Buy the 6600GT. Those old TI4200s last a long time. Mine's 3 plus. But will not play the new games. :(

Are you sure you aren't thinking of the over $200 GTO2?

Yep.....not only is the GTO2 unlockable but the Connect3d X800GTO is also unlockable. The only difference is that the X800GTO from Connect3d has 2ns memory compared to the 1.6ns with the GTO2 which will mean lower overclocking speeds with the GTO but will still reach X850XT speeds with ease  ....for the money you just cant beat it

Success 114 : 7 Failed (last update Nov 23 2005).

Pretty good sucess rate....I ordered one with my new system since it was so much cheaper than the 6800gs. I am going to flash it once I get it so I will let ya know how it goes
