What is a 6800 LE? I know it has 256MB Ram but thats about it. Would 2 of these in SLI mode be better than a single 7800 GT?

its ok, dropped into manufacterers showroom today and found this out for myself now. The 'LE' is 'limited edition' and they do come with SLI support.

the 6800le (lite edition) is a striped version of the 6800 and as far as i know 2x6800,s does not beat the 7800gt..and if u have the capabilitys to run a dual card get a 7800gt now and when u upgrade again get another 7800gt ...makes more sense :D

i'm getting my new pc through a pc manufacturer, not sure that they do 2 x 6800 gs in their pc configurations. At the moment i'm tempted to go for a single asus board (ie. non sli) with the best card going. I'll save about £80 on the cheaper board which can be put towards purchase of a better single card eg. 7800 gtx 512mb, as soon as they become more widely available in a few weeks time. don't really see the sense in spending money on a sli board only to have to settle for a cheaper card with a view to adding another card in 2-3 years time by way of an upgrade.

Stay away from anything besides GT AND Ultra and Ultra Extreme and normal i.e. 6800

Thats all i say... SLI or not... If i were you and you want SLI on a budget get 2 6600gts they slightly out proform a 6800gt.

Make sure you get/have a monitor that can handle really high resolutions. Basically its not worth it to get 7800 GTXs without having a high res monitor, because the performance gain isn't that much better than a single 7800 GT at 1280x1024 or lower (or so Tom's would have us believe ;) ). I'm talking 1600x1200 or higher.

Have you seen the specs on the 6800GS? Its by far the best performance-per-dollar card on the market.

my res is 1280 x 1024, same as most other peoples really. From experience, I'll not be going for a card that can just handle present day applications (ie. games , mostly) but a card which will also be able to handle games released in the future, since the system I buy today will be with me for at least the next 4 or 5 years and will remain mostly unmodified.
