You need to install IE 4.01 with the active desktop option to get your
quick launch option.

The Windows Desktop Update in ie 4.01 is also available for
installation from ie 5 and ie 6. All he needs to do is run
iesetup again and it is automatically installed the 2nd time
around, providing Miazelli has the cab file required in his
ie installation folder. This link is for ie 6.00 SP1 but
that really doesn't matter as the file itself is the same for
ie 5.00 thru ie 6.00 SP1 so download it and use it as is.

Contrary to MS pages stating the same as you, ie 4.01 does
NOT need to be installed in order to have a working quick
launch bar or any of the other enhancments that the Windows
Desktop Update brings to Windows.

Hi Miazelli and others following this thread,

Before installing the active desktop update to Windows NT4.0 you need to ask
yourself, quite seriously: do I REALLY need this 'enhancement'?

The active deskto add-on is the single biggest cause of instability in NT4, and
as such, I wouldn't even consider installing it unless there is some dire reason
for it's use - basically, it is more trouble than it is worth !

Just my 2 cents worth.

Calvin.
