From what I can tell, the AMD line is faster than the Intel line. But that's on the high end. If I'm going with mid-high (say, AMD 4400+ dual core vs Pentium D 3.2 or 3.4), which would perform better, if the Intel one can get 667MHz DDR2 RAM, and on my AMD the best I can get is PC3200 DDR 400MHz?

intel gets a little over 5 gigs of bandwidth from drr2 667 and amd gets 5.6 from ddr400. the memory controller for intel is a lot slower and less efficient than the a64 one that is on the cpu core itself, so amd can actually get almost ideal bandwidth out of their memory, while intel neeeds much higher memory speeds.
