I didn't say that you couldn't change the icon, just that what you discovered in Display Properties is normal. Perhaps this link will help:

<A HREF="http://www.windows2000faq.com/Articles/Index.cfm?Articl..." target="_new">Q. How do I change the Internet Explorer icon?</A>

Note: I noticed that there is a sub-key under the FBF23B42-E3F0-101B-8488-00AA003E56F8 key called DefaultIcon, and the "data" points to a file path. This may actually be the area you'll need to alter so that a new icon may be chosen, despite the instructions on the page ... but I could be wrong. However, the data under the 871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D key just points to the shdoclc.dll.

A newer link to <A HREF="http://www.microangelo.us/Default.asp" target="_new">Microangelo</A>, which may be the easiest solution.
