OK, just got 2 new LCD monitors (5:4) native 1280x1024, but i wanted to experiment with custom 5:4 resolutions. Since setting it to say 1024x768 (4:3) stretches the image, i wanted to see what something like 1000x800 or something similar would look like. Of course ya can't do that with windows, so i was wondering are there any programs out that which will allow me to set custom resolutions? and are there any cons to doing so?

Image quality will always suffer on an LCD if it's not running in its native res. There's not much point trying to run a native 1280x1024 monitor in anything other than that, because it's not going to be capable of displaying regular pixels, all of the same size.

Unless you set it to be exactly 1/2 both ways - e.g. 640x512, it's not going to be a great picture.

right, i can live with the tiny bit of image degredation, what bothers me is the aspect ration being off, if i could have it at a smaller resolution but still at a 5:4 resolution i'd be ok. Any way to do this?

1280x1024 hurts me eyes (i have eye problems). I can make all the menu bars and scroll bars and yadda yadda bigger with windows, but it's impossible to adjust the system text in various windows (i don't mean feild text, u know what i mean), so unless there's a way to do that by some other program, a windows skinner, or something, i need a little smaller res than 1280x1024 that's still 5:4.

I play all my games at native res b/c their text is either adjustable or big enough that it doesn't strain my eyes.
