I downloaded SP2 from MSDN subscriber site, installation failed twice. Then
I downloaded SP2 from "Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package

installation failed.

after these failed installation, msinfo32 shows that I, (Admin) do not have
the privilege to access MSI.

Hi,

Sounds like a group policy in effect, did you check in gpedit for installer
permissions? I suspect it's been blocked.

Local Security Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative
Templates\Windows Components\Windows Installer.

Hi, I own the machine, and I use it for work (telecomuting) . I VPN into
company and join the domain via MAC addr ID for resource access. I log on the
machine locally with local Admin and log on to company with LAN Admin ID.

Thanks.

According to the following Google Groups Search this error may
have something to do with Registry Permissions.

Google Search:
SP2 "fxsapi.dll" (setup OR deployment)
http://www.google.com/groups?&q=+SP2+fxsapi.dll+setup_deployment

Also, a shot in the dark, but easy enough to try...

fxsapi.dll = Microsoft Fax API Support DLL. And a search of the
Microsoft Knowledge Base for fxsapi.dll returns only one hit:

KB315830 - How to Manually Remove the Small Business Server 2000
Fax Server Component
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?Product=winxp&scid=kb;en-us;315830

You may want to try the first 2 steps of KB315830 which say to:

- Stop the Microsoft Shared Fax service in the Services MMC
- Stop the Print Spooler service in the Services MMC

NOTE: In regards to the service named "Microsoft Shared Fax".
On my Windows XP Professional Computer the only Fax related
service I have is named Fax.

Also, to find out whether or not fxsapi.dll is loaded you can
open the Windows XP Help and Support Center. Select "Use Tools
to view your computer information and diagnose problems". Select
"View Advanced System Information". Select "View detailed system
information (Msinfo32.exe)". Then navigate through Software
Environment to Loaded Modules.
