Early this month, I ordered the gear for a new outfit (from Newegg):
MB CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra NFORCE4/ULTRA
CPU AMD 64 |3000+ ATHLON 64 939P RT
CORSAIR D400 KIT TWINX1024-3200C2
VGA LEADTEK GF PX6800TDH-256M
POWER SUPPLY ANTEC SP-350
CASE COOLERMAS|CAC-T05-UB
HD 250GB|WD 7200 WD2500JS SATA2
FD 1.44MB|SAMSUG SFD321B/LBL1
CD MS|WIN XP HOME w/SP2
DVD-ROM ASUS | DVD-E616A BLACK
CDRW 52X32X52|SONY CRX230EE/B2 BK

Assembled the unit, fired it up; fans (on and off board) & drives all powered, but no boot to BIOS. Tried with each component disconnected, and swapped out video board with a PCI one (in place of the PCI-Ex16) and the HDD with an IDE (in place of the SATA). Still no output, either video or system speaker.

Sent motherboard back; just got replacement; installed it, and same result. (Again, tried without memory, drives, etc. attached; still no boot to BIOS).

Any suggestions as to what may be wrong? No desire to send second MB back, as it seems likely (but not certain) that the problem is elsewhere...

Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

Check for the mobo shorting to the case - a misplaced standoff or something.

Oh, also, clear CMOS.

There's a troubleshooting FAQ in the motherboard section to give the basics. Read that and see if there's anything there you haven't tried. Looks like you've done most of it, but its worth the read to be sure.

Umm, is the floppy installed right? Oh, you tried without... guess that's not it. :)

Mike.

OK, I got it going; seemed so unlikely that there were 2 bad MBs in a row that I kept on digging. I had checked the 24-pin power supply, but not the 4-pin (why add the 4-pin on an A64 MB, anyway?); turns out that the 4-pin had a bad connection. Fixed that, and voila. Sorry to Newegg for returning the first board, which was not at fault after all!

Thx for the input, anyhoo.
