Ok I wanna take the dive. I have a Dell XPS Gen 4 3.4G 1Gb Ram and a Dell OEM 6800 video card. I runs my Battlefield 2 at what I consider as "OK". I want a 7800 bad; but which one? Evga has like 3-4 different models of both 7800GT and 7800GTX, and of all of them none of the clock speeds correlate with the price tag.

>So this is what I want: a video card that can play BF2, FEAR, Cod 2, and HL2 Lost coast all at maxed out settings. I also don't want to have to buy a new card for at least 2 years. Bundles don't matter to me as I have already bought every FPS on the market.

>So given that demand which one? GT or GTX? (are the 4 pipes and xtra shaders worth $100?)

> Which brand? BFG, Evga, XFX?

>If Evga which model? They have like 10

I know this is alot to ask but I need some help if I'm gonna drop almost half of what I paid for my computer on a new video card. 8O

If I were in your situation, I'd get the 7800GT. The GTX is nice, but is on average only 10FPS faster in almost every game at any setting. Is 10FPS worth $100? I'll leave you to decide that.

As for brand... you're pretty much squared away with eVGA, BFG, XFX, MSI, and ASUS. All of them have been in business for a long time.

I personally like eVGA, BFG, and XFX. Those are true gamer's companies. I have 2x 7800GTX's Overclocked XFX's in SLI.

According to the eVGA website, part numbers ending in -AX are covered under their lifetime warranty. Vascular pretty much covered the other details relating to the different cards, and I would believe the N17-AX to be the best deal, unless you would like to take advantage of the motherboard combo deal.

i got 2 eVGA N517. Waiting on them  Tigerdirect has $30 rebate until 1/31 sweet. I thought of getting the 512MB GTX and wait on a price drop to buy 2nd one but seems a bit steep for me. Even a price drop of 1/2 would still put me in the hole that much. I would really like to know at which performance gain level one would start dealing with really minute abstract aesthetics of the card capabilites, know what i mean, to make the bang for the buck start gouging... Man , i wish i was rich so i'd set up 10 configurations and see them for myself.

Yes I Agree, Trust Us On This One bxmedic, If Your PC Has The Balls To Back It The 7800GT Is Plenty Fast And Is Quite A Bit Cheaper Than The GTX Cards, And The EVGA's Overclock Nicely, I Own A 7800GT From Them And Just Look At My OC Im Sure You Could Even Go Higher For Some Extra Performance For The $$

I too am thinking about getting 7800GT.
GTX is really powerful card but it is $200 more expensive than GT. Price/performance ratio wise GT excels GTX.

I have seen numerous bench marks on the net where they overclock eVGA 7800GT with H2O cooling and make it perform as good as GTX.
(I think there is THG article on eVGA OC)

So, I would definetly get 7800GT for sure, it leaves a room for OC. I would wait for 2 month as 7900 is expect to come out in March. Once 7900 comes out on the market, GT price will fall drastically, at least on eBay(But prices of GT on eBay are attractive enough now).

I think the magic solution for me is to get NF4 mobo, X2 3800+ CPU (I think the best price/performance AMD CPU on the market) and 7800GT.

I am going to wait for 2 month and see if GT's price falls down to ~$100 on eBay, I may just go with GT SLI.

Sorry but Nvidia doesn't make that card; ATI does.
There isn't a single card solution out that can run F.E.A.R. at the max, with acceptable framerates. I have two Evga 7800 GTs COs at 470MHz core 1.1GHz memory in SLI, and I still only get an average of about 70FPS on F.E.A.R. on 1280x960 4XMSAA 16XAF, everything max(Except soft shadows).

Oh really? Where is it? ;)
Don't get me wrong, I love my SLI setup. However I won't lie and say that Nvidia has a single card capable of playing F.E.A.R. at it's max. (High framerates)

If you force soft shadows with Antialiasing, they are rendered incorrectly. If you want the softshadows to work correctly you must disable antialiasing. Also 8X AF isn't the max. ;)

We are talking about the max in game settings. Honestly a 7800 GT will play F.E.A.R. nicely, but when I only use one of mine I get an average of about 40 or so FPS on 1280x960 with 4XAA 16XAF. Also you cannot use softshadows correctly with antialiasing enabled.
