Sata vs. sata2

I have an old asus a7v880 mobo with sata interface. I havent heard much about this sata2 spec. Will my mobo accept sata 2 drives or should I stick with sata 1 ?

sata 2 is backwards compatible i think (all these sata specs confuse me though)

SATA2 drives work on SATA1 mobos, and SATA2 mobos work with SATA1 drives. They're compatible.
