Hey all, I'm hoping to get some assistance or at least a different perspective on a problem. I just built a new system about a month ago - specs in the signature below.

Everything was working fine until Saturday when in the middle of surfing, helping a friend research cars, I lost connection. I have tried EVERYTHING I could think of but no luck getting back the connection. Very weird, as I didn't download anything or make any system changes.

I did the obvious - restart, try the modem with another computer (worked fine), etc. My network card shows as working fine according to windows and my computer knows when I unplug the ethernet cable, yet I have no connection to the net. What gives? Anyone know what I could be missing or what adjustments I need to make to get connectivity back?

Are you getting an IP address?
any router or other switches?
Try uninstalling the nic and reinstalling it.

With the ethernet cable connected, do this:

Start, Run, type in "cmd", hit enter. (leave quotes out of course)

You will now have a command prompt.

Type this: "ipconfig /all"

Post the following information on this thread so we can better assist you:

IP address
DHCP server
DNS servers

Guys, thanks for the help. I finally figured it out with the help of someone at Comcast that actually knew what they were doing. The solution was to unplug everything and then restart the equipment in the right order (modem, router, computers) so that I could get the IP addresses refreshed right or something to that affect. Not sure I understand why the laptop worked but the desktop didn't but everything seems to be working ok now.

Thank you both for your time and assistance.

I was going to mention that but must have thought you already did that when you said your restarted.
Thats the number one thing to do if you lose connection.
