Ok, I have an old AMD XP 2000 processor. I am upgrading my geforce 4 TI 4600 for an ATI X850 XT PE. I also have a gig of ram.

How much will my processor slow down my gaming performance?

That depends entirely on the game. But I think it's pretty clear that for the most part, it will, at least to some extent, and especially for more modern games. Your CPU/mobo/RAM combo is definately the bottleneck of the system now.

ther eis allot fo factors for each game on the market, your Graphics card is good, 1 gig of ram is good but it can always get better. I have a Athlon XP 2400+ system that has 2 gigs of ram and a 6600GT and the CPU lags RTS style games and some FPS games. but it is funny it plays BF2 oretty well no lag.. so in all the CPU will lag most games on the market...
