Hey All-

I have an Athlon 3200+ with 1GB of PC3200 and a Geforce6800. I've been finding recently that in a lot of games my CPU is slowing down everything else (which has been upgraded over the last year while the CPU has not as it requirs a new mobo). I am now looking to purchase a AMD 64 (Probably something in the range of a 3500+) but don't have tons to spend right now so I have to stick with the AGP video card. Are there any recommended boards that support either both PCIExpress and AGP or simple an AMD 64 board that sticks only to AGP. If I was going to purchase an AGP only board I wouldn't want to spend to much because of the lack of upgradability.

Thanks

ASRock makes a hybrid PCI-E and AGP motherboard- but I've read a lot of bad things about it. On paper it's just a bad idea. Not only that, it's based on a ULi chipset- not the best chipset maker out there. Anyways, there's plenty of AGP Socket 939 mobo's out there. Here's a couple:

Basically, you're going to need to look for a board based on the nForce 3 250GB chipset and is Socket 939.

Well, I did switch my nforce4 motherboard to the asrock 939 dual SATA with the ALI chipset. So far, I'm impressed. It post first time, got windows installed without any problem and I use it with my AGP ATI AIW9600. Later, I will add my PCI-e videocard, that is still in use in another system. I'll have both card running full speed into it.

Don't forget that you can read a lot of bad thing about DFI, Asus, MSI (well, those are more believable anyway..), ...

The more motherboard that sell, the more complain you'll likely to hear. There is not more bad board on the market that there is bad builder...

This board has passive cooling. Those who are used to passive cooling over jet like sound chipset fan know what I mean by quiet computing..

The AGP is not an hybrid mutant kind of slot, but a real AGP that is as fast or faster than normal AGP. I don't know about the long term reliability, but there is some quality put in that board.
