Well, looks like Intel is not interested in making quality CPUs and switched to selling MHz to the public.

Hence, I am looking forward to transition from using Intel CPUs to AMD.

I was always using Intel CPUs. The last one is P4 2.8 800 Northwood. I am thinking to get S939 Opteron dual core 2GHz 2MB L2.

What MB and RAM would you recommend?
I have 4x512MB KingMax dimms 2.5-4-4-8. Will they do OK with Opteron X2 or Athlon 64 X2?

1. I do not overclock/benchmark at all.
2. I do not want to pay premium for faster memory, though I would pay extra for more reliable operation.
3. Reliability is most important thing for me.
4. Low noise is second most important thing.

Thanks in advance,

If the kingmax is pc3200/DDR400, it will be ok. Those timings are rather poor, but oh well. What software will you be running?

Yes, it's 400/3200.
I've been woried about weakness of AMD embedded memory controller to run 4 dual side sticks. But I also know that KingMax SuperRAM is very solid RAM, though slower than CL2 RAM.

I run compilers, debuggers, sql server, iis, some video editing software, a little of counter strike: source and UT 2004.

I'm using 4 double sided DIMMs on an Athlon 64 x2 system. No problems at all.

BTW, it's Corsair TWINX3200LLPT RAM. (DDR400) 2-3-2 timings.
